The society of St Joseph Sevika Sanstha is a religious order of the Catholic Church. Its an indigenous Indian congregation situated in Nandanagar, Indore  Madhya Pradesh which serves as its headquarters. The origin of the society is primarily from the then Bishop of Indore, Most Rev.Francis Simons, SVD with convictions that no other religious societies were completely focused on social upliftment ministries in the decades of 1960’s. Therefore, during the Second Vatican Council in Rome in the year 1962, he had an opportunity to have a talk with Pope John XXIII, about his ideas to found a new congregation who would work especially for the poor, neglected and less privileged in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. He also had proposed the name Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit, Sr. Baptista Simons is the fitting personality as she is already working with young and old women for their empowerment. Thus, the society was founded with the patronship of St. Joseph the Worker by Mother Baptista Simons, SSpS on 13th of January 1965 with four girls from her special class who expressed their desire to work committedly. The members are called Sevika Sisters, of Indore. The society is engaged in various social upliftment activities, evangelization and apostolic ministries in different states of India.
